Tranistion for Veterans

Are you a veteran in transition?
Do you use the VA system?
Yes you can use the VA for your transition to a point.
No they won't do SRS, that falls under elective surgery at this point. But, they will take care of pychology, and HRT.
So, here's the steps you need to begin.

1.Get a primary care doctor you can trust. Then tell them you need a consult to psyc for problems with GID(gender identity disorder). Get a thurough physical so you know your status to start. Veterans, because of the nature of the job, are very suseptable of contact with HEP-C which effects the liver. If you are doing hormones on your own, tell your doctor and ask for a consult to endocrinology they are obligated to continue treatments already begun.

2. When you get to psyc be sure your Dr. is experienced with Trans folk. If not, are they willing to learn along with you, this can benefit you if you are as voracious about learning as they should be.  Or have them set up a fee basis to a local psyc who is expierenced with trans issues.
Ask for your “get into jail card” letter that should you get looked at while your trying things out it explains you are trans and under a doctors care.
After 3 months you can get your consult to endo if you weren't already doing them.

3.  Hopefully endo will have expierienced personal that will help.  Try to be as up on the hormones as you can be, this aids you in understanding what is going on and why.*

4. Keep all of your appointments or call to let them know about delays.  It keeps them on your side.

That should get you started, best of luck.
